A Serenade With The Ladies Of Jazz
A Serenade with the Ladies of Jazz is a program that honors the female voices that have left an indelible mark on the history of jazz. Under the direction of Natanael Ramos and accompanied by the Atlantic Jazz Lab Orchestra, Belgian singer Esther Van Hees performs a carefully selected repertoire of songs immortalized by the great ladies of jazz, highlighting their influence and the emotional depth of their interpretations.
The program includes classics that span from the exhilarating swing of Ella Fitzgerald to the melancholic tone of Diana Krall, along with the sophistication of Doris Day and the intensity of Anita O’Day. Pieces like Fitzgerald’s “Too Darn Hot,” Day’s “Love Me Or Leave Me,” and “Caravan,” as performed by Fitzgerald and Duke Ellington, take the audience on a journey through styles and emotions that define the essence of female vocal jazz.
A Serenade with the Ladies of Jazz not only aims to revive these classic performances but also to highlight the pioneering role these women played in music. With detailed arrangements and a vocal performance that deeply connects with each piece, this production celebrates the musical legacy of the great ladies of jazz, inviting the audience to rediscover the genre in all its richness and diversity.
